Congrats to Dustin Pedroia for winning the A.L. Rookie of the Year award. Pedroia won the award running away as he received 24 of the 28 first place votes. He earned it, setting a rookie batting average record for 2nd basemen while being one of the key components to this year’s championship. Pedroia went .317/7/50/7 through a season in which he batted leadoff, 2nd, 8th, and 9th and was a catayst at the top of the lineup.
Josh Beckett finished 2nd in the Cy Young voting to C.C. Sabathia, which really didn’t come as a surprise. Sabathia threw 40+ more innings, had more strikeouts, and was more consistent throughout the year. Let us not forget, however, that Beckett bested C.C. both times they faced in the ALCS, proving that it doesn’t matter how well you do in the regular season, people only remember you for your postseason heroics. Unless, of course, you’re Roger Clemens.
