Hot Stove – Red Sox offer “strong deal” to Lowell

Excellent. Reports say the Sox offered Lowell a 3 year/$35-$45 million offer. A little under what I proposed (3 years/$55 million), but that’s still a large chunk of change. Remember, initial reports said that the Sox wouldn’t offer more than a 2 year deal, so it would appear that Theo and the bunch are listening to what the fans want.

In other news, several teams are interested in Coco Crisp. The Sox are deep at every position on the field as of right now (and that doesn’t include Brandon Moss, who can play OF and 1st base), so I’d think they go for more bullpen depth to make sure Okajima doesn’t get burnt out at the end of the year like he did in ‘07.
